Influence of Phenytoin on the Convulsion and Increase of Plasma Corticosterone Level induced by Picrotoxin in Mice

Abstract
|
|
|
The influences of phenytoin on the picrotoxin´ induced convulsion and increase of plasma corticosterone level in male mice were studied. The results obtained were summarized as follows.
1. The convulsive dose (CD50) of picrotoxin was decreased by the pretreatment of pheny toin.
2. The plasma corticosterone level was markedly increased dose dependently by the treatment of picrotoxin (2 mg /kg, 3mg/kg and 4mg/kg).
3. The plasma corticosterone level was markedly increased dose dependently by the treatment of phenytoin (10 mg/ kg, 20 mg /kg and 40mg/kg)
4. Picrotoxin induced increase of plasma corticosterone level was markedly potentiated by the pretreatment of phenytoin (20 mg /kg and 40 mg /kg)
